Technical Panic at the Vélodrome: Soprano's Show Canceled
Mardi 8 Juillet 2025
The Stade Vélodrome, a well-known emblem of Marseille, mainly hosts matches for Olympique de Marseille. It is considered one of the most beautiful stadiums in France and represents much more than just a sports venue: it is a place filled with emotion for supporters and residents of the city. In recent years, it has also become a popular venue for concerts. Soprano, whom you can listen to on our webradio Rap Fr by AllZic Radio was supposed to perform there on October 11, in front of his Marseille audience. Unfortunately, a major technical issue has forced the artist to cancel this highly anticipated concert.
Just a month ago, it was the star Ed Sheeran who performed two concerts at this legendary venue. Everything went very well, and Soprano even took the opportunity to show him around the city, as well as introduce him to another popular sport in Marseille: petanque. Unfortunately, the Marseille singer will not have the chance to perform there, at least not this year. On social media, his teams announced that the concert would not take place, revealing the reasons for this cancellation.
A thorough technical study conducted with the stadium teams revealed that the new grass, scheduled for August, cannot support the stage for Soprano's last show.
Indeed, the concert was set to take place in the middle of the Ligue 1 season, and Soprano and his teams had planned to create a huge central structure to accommodate the singer during his concert, which the grass would not have been able to withstand. Technicians could have completely replaced it for the duration of the concert, as is often done, but since the show is happening in the middle of a football season, it is simply impossible, due to timing.
In the statement released by the singer's teams, it was revealed that ticket holders will be refunded by the ticketing networks through which they purchased their tickets. Although the concert at the Vélodrome will not take place, Soprano has quickly booked other large venues in the region to present his new show to the residents of his city. He will therefore be performing at the Dôme de Marseille on November 25 and 26, as well as at Arena in Aix-en-Provence on December 16 and 17. A real blow for the many fans of the singer, but we imagine this is just a postponement, and that this concert at the Vélodrome will eventually take place one day!
