"Social Portrait of INSEE" provides an insight into young people in France. Three dossiers analyze different aspects of French society in depth. About forty summary sheets, presenting essential data and European comparisons, complete this social panorama. In particular, it notes that employment is predominant among the most highly educated, inactivity dominates among non-graduates, that young people are more often victims of physical and sexual violence and robbery, or that in 2015, 62 % Of people aged 16 or over residing in metropolitan France use the Internet every day or almost every day.

In detail, we learn from this study that the daily practice of Internet remains very different between generations: 87% of 16-24 year olds connect daily or almost daily against 27% of 65 years or more. The use of the Internet is very diverse. Searching for information about goods or services, healthcare, training or visiting travel websites is the main reason for the almost daily connection to the Internet (with sending and receiving emails) Respectively 90% and 88%). Next comes access to his bank account, reading newspapers, posting messages on social networks or telephoning via software like Skype or Facetime. The oldest surfers daily do almost as much as the younger ones to search for information (86% vs. 94%) and as much as they do to send e-mails. Conversely, posting messages on social networks remains the prerogative of the youngest: 76% of 16-24 year olds do it against 57% of the 25-39 or 37% of 40-49 year olds. Telephoning over the Internet is also more practiced by 16-24 year olds than by 25-39 year-olds (41% versus 32%). The entire INSEE study is available here: https://goo.gl/JsT0wa
